The need for a national Odom family organization seems to have occurred to several people in various parts of the country at roughly the same time. Many were doing genealogical research on the Odom family name, but there was no coordination of effort. In 1979 from New Braunfels, Texas, a San Antonio suburb, Helen Odom Harrell placed an advertisement in the Genealogical Helper asking for correspondence from other Odom descendants and offering to act as a clearinghouse for information exchange. Far to the east in Atlanta, Georgia, Robert Earl Woodham was striving toward his dream of a national organization with various publications and photo albums as well as the establishment of a museum and a research center.
Though the efforts of Mr. Woodham, a family reunion of Odoms was called for in the summer of 1980. A number of Odom descendants met at Eufaula Stage Park in Alabama for the weekend. At that meeting Mrs. Janmari Williams of Birmingham, Alabama was elected president. Robert P. Odom of Prairieville, Louisiana was named vice-president and Victor L. Odom of North, South Carolina was chosen secretary-treasurer.
After that first reunion in 1980, Odoms have met every July, except 2020, to carry on the work of the National Odom Assembly. Join the National Odom Assembly now and join us for our 45th reunion on July 17-20 in Katy, Texas.
The purpose of the National Odom Assembly is to encourage genealogical research on all branches of the greater ODOM family and the sharing of that research; and to promote fun and fellowship among its members.

We consider ourselves a family regardless of how we spell our last name or our DNA results. Many of our members are Odoms but we have several members from the other spellings as well. We would love to have you join our Odom/Odum/Oldham nationwide family. Come Join the NOA Family.
From our Odom research, we have identified areas where Odom ancestors lived. Most of our members live in the purple, blue or pink areas of the country. Our annual reunions are usually in one of those areas. We are striving to increase our genealogy research to connect even more of our members with each other.
The Odom/Odum/Oldham DNA Project was started by Helen Odum Harrell with the aim of conducting genealogical research using the latest scientific method. Many of our members have tested their DNA and have been divided into sub-groups we have established based on common ancestors.
